Our priorities - clean teeth, 5k, and 50k!

We arrived at ATL 3 hours behind schedule because of a broken nose (see last week's post 😂😂😂😂) Don't get me started on the craziness I saw at ATL airport.  Ask if you really want to know.....

It took us about 2 hours to get from International to our rental and off we went to our accommodations.  The next morning I went for our continental breakfast with the tv blaring commercials for high blood pressure, lawyers and E.D. ALL this before I sat down to eat my breakfast.  So so so different from Canary Islands where the commercials were all about activities like hiking, sailing and experiencing the culture.

Not to worry, as you already know, this family can't sit still and we already had a couple of plans to keep us on our toes! Let's begin with cleaning our teeth!  We tried x-rays but that didn't work, but Enzo loved the heavy cape!
We drove down to visit my mom where she had already signed up for the Breast Cancer Awareness walk in her community.  She invited us to join her and we leaped at the chance to participate!

With quite a few breast cancer survivors (and other cancer survivors) in the group, we all celebrated the amazing life we all are living!
We decided to have more fun and do the Jail Break 5k.
The event encouraged dressing up in costume. Eli did his own camo face!
We broke out of jail and we took Enzo with us...ha ha ha (Laugh now, that bridge is for real!)
Look who won first place for the kid's costume contest!
Yes!  My mom won 3rd place in her age group!  Way to go!  These are my winners.....love it.

The guy who created this food truck is a GENIUS!  I am not a donut person but man, it smelled so good.  I ordered the French Toast Donuts and oh boy, I was hooked.  My little bag of mini donuts tasted like French Toast, if not better!
We also were able to meet up with some friends of ours and take them to Eli's most favorite place in the world.... The Navy SEAL Museum!  I can't recommend it enough!
Yep, this is paradise to Eli.  He loves the museum.  But let's be honest...is it the museum he loves....or...
I think he loves the Navy SEAL obstacle course that you are allowed to try out!  Yep, that's what Eli loves.
The best part is when Enzo joins in with Eli at different sections of the course.

Trust me when I say this is huge for Enzo.  Enzo does not like getting dirty.  He doesn't like dirt, sand or anything that sticks to him.  Still, Enzo took his time and was able to traverse the "Belly Crawl" obstacle more than once!  YAY ENZO!
Eli couldn't get enough of this obstacle and ran it over and over.  When all was said and done, Eli had sand, dirt and grass stains all over him and the biggest smile ever! Eli is READY! Go Eli Go!
On our way back to ATL we made sure to stop by our old stomping grounds on Amelia Island at our favorite restaurant, Sliders.  We were fortunate to be able to sit and relax with some friends while the kiddos played.

We also swung by our friend's business (new to us since it wasn't there 5 1/2 years ago). Kourtney and Nik created an amazing coffee and donut shop called "Southern Blend."  With scriptures on the wall, Christian music filling the air and the smells of cinnamon, dough and sugar, this place was heaven to us all.  Again, I am not a donut person but apparently I am now.  Ha ha!  YUM!
We made it back to ATL and Eli was absolutely blown away by how BBQ was made. But....he still didn't eat the BBQ, just the grilled cheese.

On another note, I couldn't believe how many HOURS we spent in a car.

I had gotten so used to walking in Nicaragua, Costa Rica, Canary Islands and Barcelona that when we got back to the states, I was absolutely blown away by how much we had to rely on a car AND how many HOURS we spent in a car.

After documenting 10,000 - 15,000 steps per day - according to my phone, I was barely hitting 1000!  My hips were so sore from all the sitting.
We visited Grandma Rosie and Grandpa Brock and Eli enjoyed going through the military stuff that had collected in the garage of Grandpa Brock.
Oh yeah, did I mention I signed up for a 12 hour race?  It was in Dacula, GA and it was called the Thriller Lake (homage to the upcoming day of Halloween).  The temps got a little high for some of the participants but I embraced the heat!

The Thriller Lake Endurance run is a 12, 6, and 3 hour timed loop event on the 2.2 mile loop around Miller Lake at Little Mulberry park in Gwinnett County, GA.

It was a last minute sign up and it was so fun.  Ummmm, yes, last minute, 12 hour race.  I figured I had walked enough hills in Tenerife to deem myself ready for an ultra event.  HA HA HA (I'm still recovering)

Although I had to dust off the cobwebs in my head on how to participate in an ultra event, I was super pleased that the entire family was on board to crew me. Eli was the most eager. And boy, he was a HUGE help!
Eli joined me every other loop AND ran in the kid Fun Run as the sun was setting (in costume of course).  Eli did a total of 17.8 miles (running back and forth to help feed me).
The weather was perfect for me (too hot for others) and the sunset was just beautiful!  I started the race at 10am and stopped just shy of 10pm with a total of 33 miles.  I got an award for completing a minimum 50K.

Oh and I caught up on my missing steps as that day, with prep, totaled 80,758 steps!

Eli ended up being the first to cross the line of the Fun Run (no prize, just bragging rights).
Eli continued on throughout the night to help me complete each of my loops.  There's nothing like enjoying a little conversation with your loved ones under the light of the full moon.
The temps did go down.  I think the winners of the race appreciate that.  I just kept moving so I wouldn't get cold.
I think my final loop ended around 9:15pm.  The loop was the longest but it was the sweetest as I walked with Eli, who continued to encourage me to move forward and never quit!
We were EXHAUSTED!

Thriller Lake is definitely my favorite ultra race as it was a nice 2.2 loop on a flat course.  What made it more amazing was that the race director had the most amazing spread for the aid station.  Their grilled cheese with homemade tomato vegetable soup hit the spot!  The decorations were hilarious too.  Eli enjoyed goofing off - how he had the energy, I do not know.
As we were planning our trip to the Bahamas, we were able to visit a few more friends, to include my favorite foster family.

My heart fills with joy as I watch this amazing family raise their beautiful baby boy.

I have to admit, foster care is tough and not for the faint at heart.  Fostering is a rollercoaster ride that really took our emotions to the ends and back but to see this story progress makes me so happy that we were part of something special.

We look forward to seeing this family grow.

Onward to the Bahamas!

4 back packs, 1 carry on and a checked bag so we could carry our fins and Eli's toy gun.
Enzo never wants to walk on the plane.  Fortunately the airlines allow for us to be one of the first to get on the plane and settle Enzo into his seat.
Approaching the Bahamas.....seriously beautiful!  The waters were so clear!
This is how we role.  Enzo in his special chair and our carryons.
Onward with our travels!  We NEED this~!  We NEED this life.  All 4 of us enjoys the freedom it gives us.
