Meet friend, will travel to Puerto de la Cruz
A little over an hour from Puerto Santiago, where we have called home the past couple of months, we traveled to Puerto de la Cruz to visit a new friend of Scott and Eli.
Once there our friend, Mat showed us around the huge boardwalk of Puerto de la Cruz where everyone was celebrating the end of summer. School starts the next day!
Mat, is the name of our 7 foot friend (but Scott likes calling him Mateo because it sounds way more international than Mat 😆). Mat and his family are from eastern Europe and are now residents of Tenerife, Spain and loving life. He is also really connected with other expat families in the area.
The beaches were the same black beaches but these seemed a bit more on the rocky side but well protected like a bay.
Never a dull moment when traveling with kiddos, right? Homeschool for the win, Eli knows how to play chess and surprised the chess educator with his moves.
At the end of the day Mat had planned a family meet up with a few expat families. We met people from Italy, Germany, the UK and yes, even Canada! All of them want the same quality of life we desire, outdoors and tranquilo.

We walked from one end of the boardwalk, ate at a yummy cafe and were in awe of how different Puerto de la Cruz was from Puerto Santiago.
With a population well over 35,000 (that's 6x more than Puerto Santiago), it was a lot to take in. It was definitely more touristy with lots of stores and cafes to choose from.
Apartments, homes, offices were propped tightly along the side of the hillside that ran straight into the Atlantic Ocean. Still, it didn't seem as hilly as Puerto Santiago which allowed for a small break for our legs.

It was a great day and then I noticed Enzo no longer had his shorts on. Eli saw him throw his shorts onto the roof of Mat's home. Yikes!
Not to worry, our German friend climbed to the roof and saved the day. Never a dull moment in our lives.
