The Island of the Dogs (The Canary Islands)

Before I discuss the flight situation from Costa Rica to Tenerife, I figured I would write now about the fact that we are indeed in Puerto Santiago, Tenerife Canary Islands.  Crazy as it may sound, when we first arrived, we were severely jetlag, exhausted and without a doubt second guessing our decision to stay in a one bedroom apartment in Puerto Santiago (no a/c).  But after waking up to the beauty of this island, we knew we made the right decision.  We are literally walking distance from so many things.  Should I mention that everything is uphill - both ways!  😂😂. That's how it feels!  But hey, it's great for keeping healthy and strong.  Our apartment is on top of a hill that is close enough to gather your belongings and walk to the beach! That's what I call perfect.  In fact we are walking distance to the supermarket, two beaches and even Los Gigantes, the town next door with gigantic cliffs looming with intimidation over the Atlantic Ocean.  Wow, did we really just

Athens, Greece? Not yet, We're in Atenas, Costa Rica

Somehow you do something and you don't even realize why you did it.  I mean, we do things and know why, but after it's done, we have to look back and wonder, what in the world were we thinking?  Let me share with you our crazy learning process.  We wanted to leave for the Canary Islands in July.  However, the flights were super expensive, except on one particular date.  Or so we thought.  So instead of leaving for the Canary Islands on Thursday July 13th, we decided to leave on Thursday July 20th.  Why?  Because the air fare (and dates fro the Airbnb) was cheaper.  But then we still had one week in Costa Rica.  What to do?  And where?  Tamarindo was not cheap!  So I decided to do something completely different and head to the central mountains of Costa Rica to a teeny town called Atenas.  Funny, when I told a taxi driver about Atenas, they were like, "why would you want to go there, there is nothing there."  Yikes.  I almost regretted booking our place but we had done

We're not in Nicaragua anymore - Cocos and Tamarindo

June 13, 2023, We left Nicaragua and headed to Costa Rica.  We had already made plans to go to Hotel Riu Guanacaste for Eli's birthday but we decided to leave a smidge earlier due to the "aguaceros."  First stop, Playa de Cocos, just south of Liberia Airport.  Our airbnb needed to have 2 rooms, 3 beds, a kitchen, washer and pool.  It had everything we needed.  But it wasn't the 20 acre farm in Masatepe with vast amount of land, a view and serenity.  This was tight living quarters with one condo right on top of another in a maze of condos, sidewalks and more.  Fortunately the pool was immaculate (severely chlorinated) and refreshing.  We were also within walking distance of the beach.  But we were not "safe" walking distance from anything else.  This was not a sidewalk friendly town so we ended up renting a golf cart from Island Golf Cart rentals.  Brain, a Canadian, was such a blessing!  Super nice guy who gave us a great deal!  Talk to him in person and t
